I've tried a few techniques to deal with writer's block. The first, and most obvious, is to just step away. Go watch a movie, or play with the dog. Clear your mind. Once you're not so stressed, come back and try again. Another way I tried was to jump from that project to a different writing project. By the time you finish, perhaps the original story will be ready to come out. Fantasizing about my characters as I go to sleep is also beneficial when I have written myself into a corner.

My favorite part of being a writer are the characters. One minute I get to be a Romanian princess, and the next I can be a doctor. I can hop from Scotland to the Montana Territory in one day if I so desire, not to mention I get smooches from the sexiest men in romantic fiction. What could be better?

Write, write, write! It is so easy to put writing aside, especially in our busy lives. You have a great story idea? That's wonderful! Now, sit your little butt down and start tapping away at the keyboard. Trust me, if you wait until you have the time, that book will never get written. Writing the story is just the beginning of a fun and often frustrating journey, but if you never take the first step you the adventure will never begin.

I am currently fumbling my way through a Medieval romance in which the heroine of the tale is the sister of what in today's world we would term a psychopathic serial killer.

Inspiration can come from anywhere, and I mean anywhere. One of my stories I placed on the back burner years ago came about from a Lord of the Rings wallpaper. A song can inspire me, or a thunder storm. The threads start spinning in my imagination, and I will see in my mind a figure high in the tower of an ancient castle, cowering as the lightning flashes in the sky. It really is that quick for me.

A Touch To Remember in many ways told itself, although I admit the hero of the tale was inspired by a former classmate who was drop dead gorgeous. Most people never took the time to look past his pretty face. He was one of the kindest, sweetest souls I have ever known and at the end of the day, it wasn't beauty he was drawn to, at least not beauty of the physical kind. He could have chosen to model or go to Hollywood (he really was that gorgeous) yet instead he chose to spend his life working with special needs children.
