Ray Bradbury's "Martian Chronicales." There I would attempt to create a utopian world as described in my upcoming science fiction trilogy, "Immortal."

What might have happened if my millionaire Godfather, H. Grady Meadow, had succeeded in his desire to adopt me, against the wishes of his wife Sadie Meadow, who intended for her nephew, D. Boone Pickens, to inherit control of the Gulf Oil Company, of which her husband was president at the time. Instead, I ended up, as my memoir "The Genteel Poor" hopefully reveals, with a far greater mother and all the positive lessons that poverty can teach.

She closed the book and her brow furrowed as she re-read the title, "Guilt Begets Gore." Then she gasped and her blood ran cold as she saw the bony skeletal fingers of a hand emerge from between the pages and begin to lift the book open.

Hi Brittany,
Forgive me if I failed to answer your post originally. I'm terrible at social media. If I may answer your question belatedly, I have released a fiction trilogy (The Piano Lover, Piano Lover - The Musical, Piano Lover - The Movie) laid in New Orleans French Quarter circa 1950-60's. An interracial straight/gay trio of entertainers create a musical, take it to Broadway, and a movie is made of it. There is a script and score of an original new musical in the second book, the premise of which is that God is a woman and recruits a cocktail pianist to write songs voicing her grievances with humanity. If you're not turned off by interracial straight and gay characters, or sexual scenes that fall short of pornography and are essential to understanding the characters, then I would greatly appreciate any feedback you might offer.
Thank you for your Genteel Poor comments. Aside from being a tribute to my mother, an extraordinary woman, it was an attempt to demonstrate the South's attempt to move gracefully into the 20th century, a precious culture destined for extinction, but worth studying and from which we can learn so much.
I welcome your further comments.
