NADIA MADDY Thanks for this! Sorry I took so long to answer. To be a writer is to shareyour thoughts with the world and be rejected or accepted. However once you have done it. You no longer are concerned with what people think only that people read and understand your work even if they hate it!
NADIA MADDY Everyday topics inspire me, stories from friends, relatives, and strangers about their lives or experiences. I also find listening to FKA Twigs and James Blake really inspiring. James Blake's music is extremely haunting. FKA Twigs is a work of art herself let alone what she produces. She defies the norm and her voice is that of sheer purity. I like difference it helps and inspires me to write. When I listen to their music I can write for 24 hours without sleeping.

NADIA MADDY Usually, something is wrong with the story when I have writers block. Other times I just leave the writing alone but I will listen to specific music and watch certain movies when I have writers block. I watch anything by Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, Guillermo del toro, Kevin Smith. I'll listen to Salif Keita, Baba Maal, FKA Twigs, James Blake, Fatoumata Diawara. It usually gets me thinking...
NADIA MADDY I went on holiday to Sierra Leone after the war was over and then came back to London and watched Blood Diamond which was a very true reflection on what had happened in the country. Someone called me and pointed out that a South African mercenary wouldn't date an American journalist . It struck me that the mercenaries I saw in the nightclubs while on holiday in Sierra Leone would much rather be with the local women but they were poorer and not from the middle classes. I knew this was something that no one living in the west was aware of.
