A personal encounter that became an unconventional inspiration. Year later, my nephew asked me what it's like to raise a dog, so I answered truthfully: all of the ups, all of the hardships. He quickly decided that he was not ready to take on a responsibility like that... but suggested that I should write a book about it instead.
