First I distract myself with other tasks, get away from my writing for a little bit. When I come back, I try to focus on the longer-term goals of the piece, where I want it to go eventually. Planning the later sections in my head (or on paper sometimes) eventually dissolves the block on the lines I had difficulty finishing.

I'm constantly looking for answers to bigger picture questions, digging, asking, researching. When I feel I'm close to some answers I need to share with the world, then I set down to write it all down.

I was having lunch with two book editors, talking about the state of the banking sector. At the end of the lunch, they both said "that's a great book you just explained to us." I was surprised at first but when I thought about my rants and raves, I realized there was a theme: it was about the lack of proper solutions to the banking crisis of 2008. The zombies still lived on, with government help.
