Jane Retzig I don't really get writer's block. If the ideas aren't there, I don't write. And when the ideas are there, I'm just falling over myself to get to my note pad or laptop :0)
Jane Retzig All kinds of ways - something I see, a fragment of news, music on the radio (the book I'm writing at the moment was inspired by hearing Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' on the radio at Christmas) - something someone says - or some personal experience, memory or issue that I want to 'process'. I don't normally have an idea of where the story is going when I start. I just sit down and write, and at some point it takes on a life of it's own.
Jane Retzig 'The Wrong Woman' is about love and friendship, as all my books are, but it's also about bullying. It was inspired by an experience shared by myself and group of my friends. I felt very strongly that I needed to write it. (It was a bit like the line in 'Desert Hearts' that goes something like "When I get home I'm going to write a short story for my revenge"). I'm really glad I wrote it. It was very cathartic and I think it will resonate with a lot of people who've been through similar experiences.
