Quentin Eckman The tree was moving, although there was no wind to push it. I sensed the root entangling my ankle before I actually felt it begin to drag me beneath the surface.

Quentin Eckman Moby Dick. Oddly enough, I've never read that classic. Plus anything that I haven't already read by Stephen King, Barbara Kingsolver, and Neil Degrasse Tyson.
Quentin Eckman I would travel to Derry, Maine, and become a character in a Stephen King novel.
Quentin Eckman I haven't had a serious case of writer's block. However, whenever I'm stumped as to where to go next with a story, I get away from the keyboard for a day or so and get into my own head. I just let the story fester until an idea comes to me. If the idea seems worthy, I go back to work. If no idea comes up, I work on something else for a while. I usually have at least two projects going at any one time.
Quentin Eckman The best thing about being a writer, in my case, is that I can get these stories that are swirling around in my head into tangible form. It is my gift to the unwary and a curse on the unsuspecting.
Quentin Eckman Advice to aspiring writers? Not long ago I was an aspiring writer. Now that I've written two novels and a pile of short stories, I'm still something less than an authority on the subject. However, in an attempt to offer some advice, the following are the suggestions I was given, and I feel they are still valid: READ (can't be said too loudly), and write what you know. Beyond that, be fearless. what is the worst that can happen if you write a bad book? Nobody will read it. That might happen even with a very good book. Don't fear failure. Write.
Quentin Eckman My latest book is a sci-fi mystery. It's more than double the volume of my previous novel, but it simply took that many pages to tell the story.
Quentin Eckman Writing has been an aspiration of mine for many years, but I've always been too busy putting bread on the table and raising a family. Now that I'm somewhat retired, I have time to indulge that passion.
Quentin Eckman My most recent book is still in the editing stage. I hope to publish it in the near future. My most recently published book, The Dead Giveaway, was inspired by the story of the 1943 gunfight and manslaughter trial of Bill Keys in what is now Joshua Tree National park.
