Gamelyn Chase Zilch! Redemptor Domus was a one-off. I'm not one of those serial scribblers so beloved of publishers. RD just happened; see my other answers for the details.
Gamelyn Chase As I've already intimated, I half-read a novel decades a go, finished it more recently and felt I could do better. The novel was Les Amities Particulieres [Special Friendships] by Roger Peyrefitte as translated by Edward Hyams. While I could not hope to match Peyrefitte's elegant prosody or his encyclopaedic knowledge of religiosity, I felt I could fashion a more punchy narrative with the promulgated theme.
Gamelyn Chase This answer's in the past tense. I half-read a novel decades a go, finished it more recently and felt I could do better.
Gamelyn Chase It depends what one's aspirations are. If it's the private jet and the apartment in Monaco, suppress your inspiration and write to a genre that sells.

Otherwise, indulge your instincts and hope for the best.

Or better still, disregard this advice and ask someone who actually knows!
Gamelyn Chase As Redemptor Domus is a one-off, I can't consider myself to be a 'writer'. Once delivered of a hard-hitting heavyweight like RD, there's really nowhere else for me to go.

Something may inspire me to take up the pen in the future, but there's nothing on the horizon at the moment.
Gamelyn Chase Dunno. Never experienced it; just raced away with the narrative. I can only suggest that those who experience it should direct their energies elsewhere. Novel writing shouldn't actually be a job. If you've something to say, it should spill out naturally.
