It's really suggested by the secret world that Nick Torr has to operate in. There are natural boundaries for any espionage/spy thriller, and most are dictated by the main character: how would he or she or react in such a situation? Would they be involved in such an operation?
The essential feature I alway aim to to achieve, is to try and make the narrative and story as realistic as possible. The current book I'm working on actually came about following a chance meeting with a former colleague that sparked off a basic plot scenario.

Often by asking myself "what would happen if..." and then working through different scenarios, plot lines and an an overall story structure. Sometimes it's a natural follow-on to a previous book, at other times it's an incident that has sparked my interest.

The next Nick Torr/CO8 book. The working title is Point on No Return and the murder of a defector takes Nick into the complex and dangerous realms of Middle East politics and radical freedom fighters.

Experiment with short narratives, short stories or even single pages of dialogue and description until you start to find a style that suits you and the genre you intend to write in. Perseverance is also a great attribute as is the ability to take criticism and respond to it. Perhaps above all, the key factor is always to have faith in yourself.

The freedom to explore different situations, create your own view of the world and simply enjoy the process of writing. It's also great to have the opportunity of providing readers with an entertaining and enjoyable experience.
