Writing is an art, but to succeed you really have to think of it as a business. You need to work your hours - whether you feel inspired or not - and you have to take professional feedback as a valuable tool that will help you improve your craft. Yes, your writing will be personal to you, but a thick skin, lots of practice and a big dollop of determination will help you develop into a pro.

As a fellow author once put it... I get to take stuff that's in my brain, put it down on paper, and then people actually pay to see what that stuff is!

I always remind myself that the first draft is just that - the first draft. It doesn't matter if what I write is complete garbage, since I can always go back and fix it, but the most important thing is just to write SOMETHING. Writer's block is best overcome by forcing yourself to just start, and not worrying about how inelegant, irrelevant or illegible the writing is. Once you get started, 90% of the time the creative juices will start flowing - often in delightfully unexpected ways.
