I'm halfway through a historical novel about the Spanish experience in northeast Florida. In the mid-eighteenth century, Joaquim de Montoya, the spoiled son of a Madrid aristocrat, is banished to St. Augustine as a Franciscan monk to prepare him to take over the family fortune. While there, Joaquim encounters the plight of the Timucua Indians.
