It's a mystery with all the crazy stuff I did in my youth, how I ever came out of New Orleans in one piece. In a more specific instance, and not to glorify drinking, but one night at LSU I drank more than I ever had before because I was mobilized for the Gulf War and my friends were buying. I usually remember everything from a night of drinking and I never black out, but this night I did. I woke up in my friend's apartment not knowing how I got there because I had disappeared and no one had given me a ride. I still don't know. But, I'm sure if there was a murder, and someone placed me at the scene... it could end up being a good plot.

Agent Cynthia Manson talked over the phone about a manuscript she rejected, but liked. She was very interested in the Hurricane Katrina aspect of it and said she'd be interested in something along those lines. As a struggling writer knows, if an agent wants to talk to you, that's gold. Six months later, I had a KINGS OF DELUSION, which is now available as an ebook on Amazon.

By reading a book that I hate putting down.

I'm shaping a manuscript about a female officer who starts investigating the suicide of a woman who used to be her best friend and it opens an entirely different box of problems as well as exposing her own.

Develop thick skin and while its fine to let friends and family read your stuff, you'll get the truth from writer groups or people in the business. If your work gets torn a new "A", then work to fix it.

There are many things to like about being a writer, but probably the thing I like best is that it's self-entertaining. I can sit and write for hours as if playing a video game. You don't have to be successful or even good as long as you write for yourself and enjoy it.

I don't agree with the idea of writing no matter what. Sometimes you feel like it and sometimes you don't. If I have writer's block, I either edit what I've already written or I write out simple sentences if only to move my manuscript forward.
