Kamon I take most of my ideas from children, having been a teacher for 30 years. Often, questions that children ask give me idea for new books. Also by looking at children, their behaviors, their words, their thougths shared with me, these are all very inspiring.
Sometimes simple facts like this little toad in my garden jumping without success at the high fence around my garden paved the way for the story "GROB".

My most recent book: "Yeah! I Am Happy Now" published in December 2014 is a story about gratitude. I owe the idea of spreading gratitude to my teacher Joan Halifax and then I wanted to pass the message of gratitude to children.
One of my student, a little boy, was the inspiration for the story. he was the one whose life changed after he learned to overcome deceptions...using the grtitude trick.

Oh! you have to be extra-diligent, on both, you work and maketing. It is easy to draft a book, it is more difficult to polish it and even more difficult to market it and to accept refusals from publishing houses!
But if you are diligent you will succeed. One thing to remember is that you have to adapt to your customer, you have to understand people and life to write books that readers can relate to. Writing is an unselfish communication act to reach out people.

Being a writer is like being a painter, a musician, it is being an artist. It is wonderful because we can communicate through our writing, painting or music. But the best thing about it is that we can communicate to millions of people. My latest childre's picture book about gratitude "Yeah! I am Happy Now" can help millions of children who have, like Cam, the character in my book, to face deceptions. The best thing is that I can help!

I try my best to be aware of the present moment. Writer's block might happen when we are thinking too much about things, people and events. Staying in the present moment opens the door to writing. But if really nothing happens, I might go for a foot massage, a walk, a short travel, anything to take my mind off the block, because it will not help to think about it...Writer's blocks are moments that pass they are not a permanent state because you wrote before and you will keep on writing after these blocks...so don't panic...:-)
