Kat Martin Michael—I write a detailed synopsis of the novel—or at least I did up until the past few years. It guides me as the story unfolds. Of course, you need to be flexible, make changes if a better idea comes along. I think the more complex the novel, the more an outline or synopsis becomes. hope that helps. kat
PS: So sorry for the delay
Kat Martin Hi, Lauren-- Against the Mark was Tyler Brodie, whom you met in Against the Night with Johnnie Riggs. Dylan, Nick, and Rafe are Ty's cousins. The Johnnie helped Dev in Against the Law. So you can see these guys are all friends. I'm sticking with the Brodies for a while. Hope you enjoy Against the Sky! warmest, kat
Kat Martin My current series, the Brodies of Alaska, was inspired by a two, month-long driving trips to Alaska. We stayed in the back of a pickup camper--not for the faint-hearted. A tough trip, but I would go again in a heartbeat. I fell in love with Alaska, knew I wanted to write stories set up there. For me, Alaska is the most romantic place on earth, in a tough, challenging way. I wanted to write about the men who live there, give them the ultimate adventure and reward them with the love of their lives.
Kat Martin Writing it my job. You don't have to be inspired to be a secretary, a nurse, a carpenter. I work for a living. I go to work every day just like anyone else. The good news is I really like my work!
Kat Martin I'm still working on my Against series, the Brodies of Alaska. Against the Wild was first. Against the Sky is next, that's Nick Brodie's story. Rafe Brodie is my work in progress. He's Nick's older brother. Against the Tide will be out in June.
Kat Martin Persistence is the key. Just keep going foward. always try to improve, but don't let anyone stop you.
Kat Martin I love the challenge, kind of like putting a jigsaw puzzle together. Of course it's a lot more fun when the pieces actually fit. not so much fun when you wake up in the middle of the night, trying to figure things out. I also love meeting such interesting people. Writers get to connect with some fascinating characters--both real and imagined.
Kat Martin Can't afford to have writer's block! got to get the book done to pay the bills. I just charge forward, or take a day off and hope the answer to the problem comes into my head. A nice ride in the mountains is good.
