A.G. Whitt One word: travel. I absolutely love to travel and see incredible landscapes throughout the world. The idea for the Heir of Atargatis came to me after my second (third?) trip to Ireland and I once again saw the incredibly stunning Cliffs of Moher. I remember standing there and thinking, there is something magical brewing here. I have to figure out what it is. And that's when I began to dive into Irish mythology, and it was nonstop obsession from there on out. I thought about mermaids and what they'd be like if they lived off the Western coast of Ireland...and then I discovered Hy-Brasil, the phantom disappearing island legendary in Irish folklore since the dawn of time, it seemed. So what if mermaids lived there? A place that WE can't see?
A.G. Whitt Start. And try not to think too deeply into what's going to happen when it's finished. You might get an agent's attention, you might not. You can't control that. But you can control the amount of time you're going to dedicate to doing something that brings you joy.
A.G. Whitt This will be a strange answer to some, I'm sure, but I actually like to look at maps when I'm fresh out of ideas. As in, I scroll around on Apple Maps and click random locations to see what they look like. The reason being, so much of The Atargatis series is centered around the setting/backdrop of the story and the entire inspiration for all of this began when I was traveling around Ireland. There's something about wonderful places in nature that can inspire the most enchanting stories, and when I need inspiration, I look around the world to find it.
