I handle writers block by walking away, with the hope that when I come back I won't be blocked. If I can, I go out and look at the sky and the scenes around me. An interruption can usually put me on track with whatever I'm trying to complete because it alleviates the stress of the blank page ahead of me.

Almost anything can inspire me. Watching my cats play, a business call with an irate customer, bird watching, or mishap on my loom all have illuminated a thought or feeling to write about. The hard part is to turn the inspiration into a solid concept with substance and words. That is also a fun process.

I am currently working on a prequel to my Looming Lady series. How did Kate become homeless? How did she survive before inheriting Aunt Sallys’ estate? This will also have loom knitting patterns included in the story. What does a homeless woman make on a loom? I hope to have it completed in Mid-January, 2015.

It was a place that inspired me to write my book "To Return". There is a street in the heart of my city where I occasionally go bird watching. Despite its location this is a restful spot, with open fields and dairy cows and a majestic view of Mount Rainier. Ducks and geese flock to the ponds that form in the fields during our rainy season. One day, after a hectic week I found myself in this place and thought "what an oasis." I thought of how alien I feel sometimes. One thought led to another and "To Return" was born. It is a fictional story based on a real place with characters who are fictional but based on a real person, me. Even Tito the dog has some of my characteristics in him.
