Jennifer Melzer There is going to be a third book, Barbara. I'm working on it now, but it's been very slow going.
Jennifer Melzer Hi Fiorela. I don't have a solid release date to give just yet. Those books take a bit to write. They're very long, so I don't want to give anyone false hope by projecting a release date until the first draft of book three is done.
Jennifer Melzer Being a writer is a very solitary career. It requires endless hours of alone-time, locked away somewhere with imaginary people who don't always do what you want them to do and never want you to leave them alone for a single second, at least not until their story has been sufficiently told.
Sometimes I forget there is a world beyond my own imagination and it's jarring to be thrust back into that world when I've just come from a place where dragons lurk behind the clouds, or goblins troll the marketplace selling poison fruit.
Jennifer Melzer If you can't afford to hire an editor right away, find yourself a strong writer's group. Whether it be online or in-person, a writer's group provides you with opportunities to workshop your stories, find your strengths so you can play on them, and your weaknesses to you can conquer them. It also helps if you can find a few trusted, willing souls to beta-read for you and provide feedback and advice on ways to improve the story before you present it to the world.
Jennifer Melzer I get to live hundreds of incredible lives vicariously through my characters. You can't beat that.
Jennifer Melzer Sometimes you have to step away for a little while. If I'm feeling frustrated and a little bit blocked, I'll duck out, take a walk or slip into a book or video game. Usually by the time I come back, I'm ready to dive back in and pick up where I left off.
Jennifer Melzer I find inspiration absolutely everywhere. Conversations I overhear, people's faces, the sound of the waves washing over the beach... There is a grain of inspiration in absolutely every little thing. I just wish I had time to tend to all of them.
Jennifer Melzer At the moment I am working on an urban fantasy novel. I can't talk much about it. I've become very superstitious when it comes to sharing too much before I finish the first draft of a story.
Jennifer Melzer Write! There is nothing more important than that.
Jennifer Melzer I got the idea for the Serpent of Time series from an Elder Scrolls fanfiction I was writing a couple of years ago. It's a far cry different from that story, but the seed was there and it blossomed.
