Andrea Barton When I came to bed, the redback spider had claimed my pillow. I blinked and he'd disappeared.
Andrea Barton What greater questions can there be than the mystery of life? I nearly solved this on a trip to Machu Picchu.
We had a meal in Cusco, where I made the rookie traveler mistake of having a drink with ice in it (the best mojito I’ve ever had). By that night, I had a terrible stomach bug.
I was still feeling terrible the next day, which was New Year’s Eve, and our friends had invited us to a beach party. Insistent that I couldn’t miss the party, my friend took me to the doctor and told him that I needed to be better in time for the event. He gave me a monster injection and sent me home.
I didn’t get better, so they went to the party without me, but by then, I was spinning out. I saw black and white spirals and went places that no other human had ever been. Some higher power entered my mind, and I finally understood the meaning of life. I had special insight to see who my true friends were. Man, it was a wild night!
Sadly, the next morning, although I remembered having an epiphany, I couldn’t recall what it was, so the meaning of life remains a mystery. Who knows what was in that injection, but whatever it was, it was powerful stuff.
Andrea Barton This summer, I've been reading:
- The Black and White House by Karien Van Ditzhuijzen
- The Last Con by Caitlin Avery
- When Lives Collide by Sarah Bourne
They are all completely different and wonderful in their own ways. Setting is particularly important in the first two. When Lives Collide is very much a character-driven novel.
