Elyce Wakerman I just returned from a trip to Vietnam, so The Things They Carried and The Quiet American are books I'd like to read, or re-read. I always like to get into a big fat classic over the summer - Tolstoi, George Eliot, Jane Austen - but I haven't made my pick yet. Any suggestions?

Elyce Wakerman In addition to writing my blog, "Birth of A Book," which appears monthly on tumblr, and preparing for the launch of my novel, A Tale of Two Citizens, I am working on an updated version of Father Loss: Daughters Discuss the Man That Got Away. It is interesting to revisit the book and to read it in light of the intervening years, during which I got to see for the first time a father-daughter relationship up-close: that between my husband and our daughter.
Elyce Wakerman I realized that the photographs and documents I found in my mother's apartment were a novel.

Elyce Wakerman Spending time with characters and situations I've created; doing research to make sure I know what I'm talking about. Solving puzzles: it's just great fun.
Elyce Wakerman I find that walking, gardening, even doing dishes - some kind of physical activity - gets me back on track.
