I go to places in my book first, then plot suggestion just jump to mind. I got the inspiration for the volcano theme in SUMMER OF FIRE, from climbing Mount Vesuvius and staring down into the steaming caldera of the volcano. Sometimes nature is so terrifying up close.

I was vacationing on the island of Capri, and thought it would be the perfect location for a thriller with a volcanic theme. There is the utter glamour of the island, coupled with the ferocity of nature.
