It closed in her face with the finality of a coffin lid.

Everything written by Sherry Thomas (Just finished the London series. Wow!), and every novel by Kristine Kathryn Rusch.

What mystery in my own life could be a plot for a book?
Here's one.
Why did our mother, who was beautiful enough to be a movie star, and who had left home for Hollywood, return so abruptly?
We never asked. She never said.

My favorite fictional couple? Eric and Sookie Stackhouse from the vampire series by Charlaine Harris. And why? Because he was so dangerous, but equally vulnerable, and she was willing to give him a chance at normalcy. Of course, this is a bit like saying my favorite fictional couple is the Phantom of the Opera and Christine...

I set up three projects for 2014. The sequel to Talking to the Dead Guys is one of them. It's called Tea With A Dead Gal, and like the original, it's set in Lockhart, TX and features the continuing adventures of our dog Boo Radley. It should be out before the end of the year.
The horror story you mention will be my major project for 2015. Hopefully I can get back to it the end of this year. Honestly, I started it more than ten years ago and got stuck somewhere around chapter nine. I've learned a lot since then, but so far haven't been able to come up with a suitable title. Right now I'm calling it Warm Heart.
Any suggestions?

The best thing about being a writer is that you sit down at your computer and make stuff up.

Read a lot. Read in the genre you want to write in. Read everything else, too. Then start writing.

I don't believe in writer's block. Any extended period of time I've not written has been by choice. Anyone can carve out fifteen minutes (often longer) to write each day. And if you can't think of anything to write, do a free association exercise. It might turn into a short story for you. Other advice when you feel stymied: take a walk, take a bath, drive around in the car. It's amazing what ideas come to you when you're unable to take those notes.

I got the idea for my upcoming safari romance novel from misunderstanding a writer I met at Armadillocon a few years back. She was telling me about her book The Fairy Bride and I thought she said The Safari Bride and I said, "Cool." So I had to write it myself.

I'm currently working on a steamy, African safari romance.
