I figure my characters are trying to get me to write the novel THEIR way. So I put it aside and let it sit and work on something else for a while and eventually the idea will pop into my brain how the first novel SHOULD go. And my characters are almost always right.

When you send something off and they send it back with those cookie cutter rejection letters, DON'T get depressed. And DON'T call them rejection letters. They are "Letters of Declination"; the publisher has declined to publish your book - that's all - and it's their loss. The right publisher is out there waiting with baited breath for your novel. I'm writing several novels - (urban serial killer) Follow the Bees, (romance) about an American belly dancer, (murder mystery) See Jane Dance, (historical fiction) set during WWI in Florida, it goes on and on. I love to write.

Inspired comes from the Greek or Latin word for breath. That pretty much sums it up. I breath, therefore I write.

My most recent book - The Island Remains - came from the question - how do people survive through adversity and war and being occupied time and time again. I have always been fascinated with the history of WWII. The roles of women changed drastically because of that time in history - politically, religiously, physically, and economically. I thought of how women survive, and it all came together with the thought, "Invaders come and go, but the Island Remains."
