Any and all titles from my go-to authors like Frankie Y. Bailey, Linda Howard, and M.L. Buchman with fingers crossed that Sandra Kitt, Crystal Hubbard, Sugar Jamison, and Meljean Brook will soon release new titles. Will also start reading works by Selena Haskins. Oh, and it feels like the latest Berger and Mitry mystery is overdue from David Handler.
Books with Girl or Girls in the title, when the story actually features an adult woman or women are on my permanent will-not-read list. Achieving womanhood is a rite of passage worth celebrating and respecting, not undercutting by constantly looking backward with longing for the finite period of chronological youth. I blame this iteration of girlhood obsession at the expense of womanhood on the phenomenal success of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo combined with the effective marketing application of the keyword search function on the everything store's site. [Some shades of bitter author envy? Oh, yes. Unflattering, yet true.:-) Support for the idea that appreciation for the gifts of girlhood need not mutually exclude enthusiasm for womanhood and its benefits also informs my decision.]
Wishing everyone happy reading year-round!

Emily and Mark from M.L. Buchman's Nightstalkers series are my favorite fictional couple because their relationship dynamics feel very modern: meeting in the workplace, respecting each other's intelligence and professional achievements, being attracted to each other's success and ambition as well as having sexual chemistry, and pushing each other to be the best, strongest versions of themselves.
Emily and Mark as individual characters make them a compelling couple. Both of them struggle with archaic entrenched ideas about gender roles in military service and in life.

Thinking of writer's block as an integral part of the writing process helps me to embrace it. Writer's block forces my brain to figure out a way around, under, over or through the obstacles.

Taking an idea from a thought in my brain to a completed manuscript for readers to enjoy is the best thing about being a writer for me.

Make time to write, which may involve getting up earlier, going to bed later, bartering time and services with a spouse, sibling, friend or neighbor.
Don't fear writer's block; it means you're on the cusp of a breakthrough. If the words won't come, go exercise, do housework, etc., then get ready to write as soon as the words start to flow again.
Don't self-censor.
Write in the way that's most productive for you.

My current manuscript is a lighthearted erotic romp about the risks and rewards of being in love after the honeymoon euphoria fades.

Writing is like breathing for me. It's more challenging not to write.

My idea for Seducing the Burks, Five Erotic Tales came from my frustration with not finding enough sexually explicit, emotionally intimate books about loved and loving, privileged Black adults in monogamous relationships.
