Hugh Finch Christian (The main character in Arctic Revelation) was the sole survivor and witness to his father's death/murder when he was just nine years old. The trauma was so profound that Christian’s mind repressed all the memories of that day to protect him, locking them away in a mental vault. Contemporary psychologists and psychiatrists are beginning to understand that psychedelics such as ayahuasca, cannabis, psilocybin, LSD, and ketamine can help patients access these repressed traumatic memories. This is a core theme in Arctic Revelation as there is a race between Christian, The Surgeon and a questionable pharmaceutical company to discover an ancient psychoactive elixir that could change the world.
This topic is personal for Dr. Finch, who experienced a similar ordeal when his father, once a well-known compassionate South Carolina statesman, suffered a debilitating stroke that left him unable to cope and manage his emotions. He became intolerant and abusive. Dr. Finch's parents divorced when he was seven, and he has no memories from before the divorce, despite years of therapy.
