Have patience. It's the hardest thing to want to be published and to have to wait for that, but it's not passive waiting. Write, get critiques of your work, learn about the craft. Be active in that waiting and don't publish too soon. You can still be a young author, but don't let your writing be release into the wild if it's not ready.

I write past it. I force myself to sit down and write, even for just 15 minutes, and even if the words are "terrible" I go with it. Usually at the end of 15 minutes I want to write more.

When I was really young I loved Good Night Moon! But later on I enjoyed Nancy Drew mysteries and I'd have to say that Harry Potter really kicked off my passion for reading.
