Jennifer Gold Hi Brooklyn,
Four things:
1) I have friends who suffer from orthorexia and wanted to bring attention to this issue
2) I thought a good way of doing (1) would be to use food as a backdrop, and where better than Paris, which is my favorite city and a foodie paradise,
3) I'm a mom of little kids and there's a huge increase in awareness of autism spectrum disorder without any real knowledge. Mostly what people feel is discomfort or fear. I wanted to dispel some of those myths and create a character who would stand more for the proposition that being neuro-atypical isn't necessarily a "disability," and
4) I wanted to comment on bullying and ways to possibly mediate it for a kid who doesn't "fit in." I've seen many of my children's peers ostracized for being "different" and while individuality should be celebrated, it should also not be used to make life harder for a child.
