R. Scott Wallis And then, like he did so many nights, he went to the bar. He found the vodka bottle empty!
R. Scott Wallis Since "Emma" is one of my favorite books of all time, I think I'd love to spend some time in Jane Austen's Georgian-Regency England at a grand country estate.
R. Scott Wallis The next book takes place in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where I lived for six months in 2017. Being there helped bring the novel to life...although I've certainly written stories that take place in locals I have yet to visit.
R. Scott Wallis I make a gazillion notes throughout every single day when inspiration hits me. I use the "Notes" app on my iPhone that synchs with my laptop, so I always have them nearby to reference. I use mood boards, too, to get me excited about airplanes, meals, drinks, and interiors that are featured heavily in my work. I also cue up the best music (nothing with lyrics) that puts me in the mood to write. Lately, I've been listening to bootlegged theme park background tracks. Weird, but I love it!
R. Scott Wallis I usually juggle two or three major projects. I'm finishing up Book Two of my Skyler Moore Thriller series ("The New Mexico Scoundrel" drops May 31, 2019); I'm outlining a Y.A. thriller; and, I'm toying with a television Christmas movie script.
R. Scott Wallis It's cliché, perhaps, but never, ever give up. Write every single day, even if you only have five minutes. And don't count on the traditional route to getting published; it's harder now than ever before. Indie publishing can be just as rewarding.
R. Scott Wallis The complete freedom to do what I want, when I want. I thrive on creating new worlds and characters and making them do the things I wish I could do and say the things I want to say.
R. Scott Wallis I'm pretty lucky that this doesn't happen to me very often. My bigger problem is distractions. I try to close down email, my browser, and not look at my phone while writing; that helps a lot.
