Tim Parks I have no answer to this question. Like any other life, there are pleasures and frustrations. Maybe the happiest moments are those rare occasions when someone you respect but have never met sends a message to say they liked a book. Enjoy it for an hour or two and then move on...
Tim Parks Out of My Head, On the Trail of Consciousness, began when I heard a guy at a conference say, There are no images in our heads, all our experience is outside of us, it is the things we see and hear and touch. The guy was Riccardo Manzotti. We became friends and spent years talking about his work on consciousness. At a certain point the book became inevitable.
Tim Parks I never seek inspiration. I simply wait for some subject to demand to be written about. Ideas will appear on the horizon. Some fade, some grow and grow until there's nothing you can do but start casting about for the first sentence.
Tim Parks I'm presently working on a retranslation of Cesare Pavese's masterpiece, The Moon and the Bonfires.
Tim Parks Simply read and write as the inspiration takes you. Think as little as possible about publishing and making money, and as much as possible about the pleasures and discoveries writing and reading can offer.
Tim Parks I really don't suffer from this. There is always something I'm happy to write about.
