I'm currently working on book three of The Moonlight Ridge Series. Book One is a summer mystery, Book Two an autumn mystery, and Book Three is all about a cold, cold winter on the mountain and a Christmas mystery. If you liked Earl Hamner's "The Waltons", Mark Twain's "Tom Sawyer" and "Huckleberry Finn", and Harper Lee's "To Kill a Mockingbird", you'll be a fan of Lily Claire and Willie T. and their adventures on Moonlight Ridge.

These are excellent little Southern Fiction novels! The characters are well crafted, believable, and full of life! (Also, often hilariously funny!) The Moonlight Ridge books are favorably comparable to the southern classics, but with a gracefully humorous, 'wayward' and otherworldly twist.

Good question! It would be hard to answer this without risking spoilers, but since childhood I've had many mysterious experiences that are the basis for a new book I'm working on now, a YA paranormal mystery.

One method that I have found to be an excellent deterrent to "writer's block" is the early morning writing ritual. If I'm experiencing a slump, or an absolute block, I grab a pen and paper as soon as I wake up, and write three pages ... before breakfast, before coffee, before Internet, before anything else. Every morning for a few weeks, or until things are flowing freely again. These pages should be spontaneous: no editing or rewriting until later.

My favorite fictional couple would have to be those two eight-year-old cousins, Lily Claire Nash and Willie T. Nock, The Moonlight Ridge protagonists. Using their wit, wisdom, and undaunted courage in the face of danger, together they are equal to any task sent their way.
My second favorite couple, no surprise: fourth grade school teacher and part-time Moonlight Ridge garbage collector, Eskine Batson, and the beautiful and mysterious Evergreen.

Stop procrastinating, sit down, and do it! I have to tell myself this every morning.

Book two of The Moonlight Ridge Series, The Witches of Moonlight Ridge, has just hit the bookstores! With the coming of autumn, there are changes out on the mountain and in the Eden community, bringing surprising new adventures for our young protagonists, Lily Claire and Willie T.
I am currently working on a few new projects: YA paranormal fiction set in the dark woods of rural Alabama, a children's picture book, and a Juvenile Biography of a special historical person.

Be careful with grammar and sentence structure. Be sure your writing says on paper what you're thinking in your head! I've read a lot of manuscripts where the idea was good but the actual writing is frustrating to try to read. Make sure every sentence actually says what you intended it to say.

I've found that the best thing about being a writer is the connection to the reader, and to people who respond to the stories I'm telling. My poetry, short stories, and my books, Sweet Music on Moonlight Ridge, and The Witches of Moonlight Ridge, evoke an emotional response from the reader, and create a common ground for communication and sharing. I love the feedback I get from readers.

My own childhood is the basis for the Moonlight Ridge series. As a small child, I lived in the most magical, enchanted, and sometimes frightening place imaginable. And I had my best friend along for the adventures: my crazy cousin Willie T.!
