Patience and perseverance are key to writing if you have the fire within. It's important to have a passion for writing, too. Also, get out there and see the world up close and personal. It doesn't mean you have to get on a plane and go to some exotic destination. You'll find that being in contact with the people, places, and things will inspire your writing! :)

I usually write something else, perhaps a blog or a short story. That often gives way to going back to my manuscript with a sharper edge to cut deeper into the story. Essentially the key to writers block is to "keep writing" something, anything to loosen the creative juices. :)
