Michael Bussa I usually don't have to go searching for ideas, they find me. Many of them come to me in the form of a dream -- very realistically. For example, I will wake in the middle of the night to a movie playing out before me. I just let it play and watch until it stops. Then, I rush to my computer and pound out the story as I remember it. Three of my stories came to me this way.
Michael Bussa When I was in third grade the teacher gave us each an assignment to right a short story. Mine was titled, "Cars Can Go 120!" I had an unexpected response from the teacher and my classmates. Everyone loved it so it ended up in the glass showcase at the school entrance -- I was hooked from that point.
Michael Bussa I have three new short stories that are in the works. I am currently focused on one, in particular. It is about three quarters finished. I work on more than one piece because sometimes you run into a roadblock and need to get away from a story. When you return to it, all of those things that are not quite right, will jump out at you.
Michael Bussa Don't ponder it. If you feel that you would like to write, just pick up a pen, or get on your computer, and begin writing whatever it is that's on your mind. Too many worry about the mechanics of writing. Don't. There are plenty of people who do that for a living and they are ready to take on your work. Just get your story on paper.
Michael Bussa There is such a freedom that comes with being able to create your own characters, time, and setting. It is creating a little world on your own terms.
Michael Bussa I really never believed in "writer's block." I think that people get into a period in their life that has a lot going on, and it simply distracts them from writing. To support that thinking, I would suggest that anyone who thinks that they are experiencing writer's block, take a moment to think about anything that may be affecting your life -- that will likely be your source.
