Margot Note When I started my consultant business, some of the first inquiries I had were from people who wanted to preserve their own family archives, but were too overwhelmed by the process. I wrote Creating Family Archives: How to Preserve Your Papers and Photographs to help people protect their legacies in an easy, fast, and inexpensive way.
Margot Note I consider myself more of a reader than a writer. My books come from a curiosity that I have about information-based subjects. When I can't find the book that I'm looking for, I create it myself!
Margot Note I'm taking a break after writing my latest book, Creating Family Archives: How to Preserve Your Papers and Photographs. I'm considering my next project, which may be editing a book or a series.
Margot Note Just write. You'll discover your genre in time. When I was younger, I only wrote poetry and fiction. Now I only write nonfiction.
Margot Note Being able to hold in your hands the results of hours of hard work. I also love discovering when I'm cited in other people's research; it's the highest compliment.
Margot Note I use the Pomodoro Technique. I work for 25 minutes, followed by a 5-minute break. It's amazing how much you can get done in that small period of time. That's usually enough for me to want to continue working. I also don't worry about the quality of my writing, at least initially. It's enough to just do it, and concentrate on editing and refining my work later on. My motto: progress, not perfection.
