If you could travel to any fictional book world, where would you go and what would you do there?

Elliott Turner A novel with a fantastic sense of place is The Shipping News. I would go for a boat ride around Northern Canada near the Atlantic and take in the sights.

Elliott thoroughly enjoyed "Night of the Virgin." You had a very keen knowledge of Mexicano culture and, of course, the ways of soccer. I'm doing a book review on "Night of the Virgin" for the daily newspaper here in Corpus Christi. It's a Sunday column. Would you mind sending me some bio info on you? I was wondering about education and so forth and how you were so familiar with the RGV and culture.

I know about the RGV because I lived in Edinburg for four plus years where I worked with nonprofit groups that help immigrants. My dad/grandparents are from El Paso/Juarez. I was born in the US but identify as Chicanx. I am in Houston now, but my wife is from Central America (and my first two children were born and raised there).

What books are on your summer reading list this year?

Elliott Turner I plan on reading 5-10 novels this summer. Right now I just started Moonglow, am finishing up The Buenos Aires Affair, and have holds at my local library for The Buddha in the Attic and also Fates and Furies. I also want to get a hold of Behold, the Dreamers.

Who is your favorite fictional couple, and why?

Elliott Turner The Baron de Charlus and Jupien. They had electric chemistry and a delightfully complicated relationship based on half-truths.

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Elliott Turner I was unaware of other pending books, and realized that, at the time, there was no definitive English language book on the Real Madrid-Barcelona rivalry. Of course, now there are tons of them!
