Read everything. Write often. Converse with your friends and trust the advice of strangers. The old cliches all apply. My main piece of advice is to set a daily word limit and stick to it. Personally I am to write 500 words a day. Somedays this is easy to meet, they flow freely, others you could struggle to get to 100. The trick is to always work on it until you hit the target. 500 words doesn't seem a lot but when your novel is 80,000 words in length then chipping away 500 a day makes it an easy mountain to climb.

I've just finished my second Filthy Henry novel "The Impossible Victim" so some time off is in order. The next novel is being plotted, another Filthy Henry story.

Everyday life inspires me. From sitting on a bus and wondering what would happen if everyone on it suddenly vanished to talking a trip to the Guinness Storehouse and contemplating the real reason behind the 9000 year old lease. I also read a lot of the old legends and constantly think about how they could be reworked into new stories.

My most recent book "The Impossible Victim" is actually based of an old Irish legend. Irish mythology has always had two healing gods, Dian Cecht and Miach. In the tale Dian Cecht becomes jealous of Miach, his son, as he is able to heal a wound from a battle that Dian Cecht never could. This leads to him killing his son. I thought it would be an interesting twist to make that a murder mystery that needed to be investigated by Filthy Henry.
