Mary J. Nelson As a cancer survivor, I founded Pray for the Cure in 2001, a healing and discipleship ministry for people facing a cancer diagnosis. Praying for the Cure: A Powerful Prayer Guide for Comfort and Healing From Cancer is a culmination of everything I've learned battling and overcoming cancer personally, and ministering to others on this life changing journey,
Mary J. Nelson When I'm under contract, I'm inspired to meet the deadline! I map out writing goals several months before a deadline and build in down time and flexibility. I'm disciplined in keeping my writing schedule. I know I need to achieve my weekly goals in order to deliver the book on time, and doing so, inspires me to keep writing to bring the project to completion. There's nothing like the feeling of finishing a book!
Mary J. Nelson I'm currently working on the next book in the Names of God series. The first, Jehovah-Rapha: The God Who Heals will be released in March, 2016. I'm also toying with a concept for my first novel.
Mary J. Nelson Keep realistic expectations, especially if you your heart is set on the traditional publishing route. If you want to go this route, make sure you have a platform of experience to write from, hone your craft, and find a good agent. Writing is a creative process, but it's also a business. You need to understand your market, why your book is needed, and be able to write a compelling proposal. If you can't break in with a traditional publisher, you can always self publish. If you do, get honest feedback on your work and hire a professional editor. If you love to write and enjoy product marketing or highly technical subjects, businesses can always use communication talent.
Mary J. Nelson I have a wonderful outlet to express what's on my mind, what new thing God has revealed to me, or some life lesson I've learned. I especially love to help people apply their faith and Biblical truth to the trials and difficult times we all face in life.
Mary J. Nelson I don't try to force it. Sometimes the downloads come in the middle of the night, while driving, or doing some mindless task like gardening or laundry. I jot notes down and always seem to have something when I sit down to write.
