I’ve been thinking about the sentence since you asked, and it started to give me a headache. In all honesty ‘before’ is clearer and more correct but ‘after’ felt right to me when I wrote it. It sort of implies that after all the terrible things life threw at you, after *all of that.*... art leads you back. Sorry I can’t be clearer than that! It just *felt right*. But, you know, ‘before’ works too...
