Hi, Stacia. My book is set in central Maryland, where I live and teach. The school name is invented, but Columbia, MD is known for neighborhoods -- and neighborhood schools -- with literary names. There is a Longfellow Elementary, and a neighborhood where all the street names are Lord of the Rings references! So it's believable that a school in this area would be named for Ralph Waldo Emerson.
I was surprised when I found out how many Emerson Elementary schools there are in the U.S. There are over 30, and they are all over the country.
