WHAT PRETTY GETS YOU, my newest upmarket women's fiction novel, releases next month. That means I'll be busy with shouting it from the rooftops for a few weeks, and then right back to work on my next novel, a widow/widower love story with a twist set in the Cayman Islands.

The idea for this story formed twenty-three years ago. I had a friend who was incredibly gorgeous, so stunning that people thought they’d had a celebrity sighting when we went out together. The trouble was, she had a seriously undeveloped moral compass, and so I watched in horror and fascination as she bulldozed through lives, stealing/lying/cheating, leaving chaos and broken relationships in her wake.
But because she was beautiful, there was always a new group willing to welcome her in. It started me thinking about how beauty without substance could make life both easy and lonely. I wondered what someone who used their looks as currency might bump up against that would stop these destructive patterns, what would be bigger, more sacred than the surface? Of course, the answer was a family.
