It began with a couple of vivid dreams that actually work their way into the story. Drawing upon those experiences, plus many conversations with people who were struggling with grief, I created the framework for the story.

Since my first novel just released, I'm currently working on promoting and marketing "The Sankofa Dreams." I'm also looking ahead, beginning to formulate ideas for my next book. Hopefully I will start putting words on paper here before the end of the year.

When you are given the opportunity to hear from your readers, that is an inspiring time. You write because you have something to say, or a story to share, and when readers respond it is an invigorating process.

I have tried a couple of different approaches. One has been to write something else in a different format, such as poetry, a blog post, or some scattered thoughts. It doesn't need to be something I'll ever share. Simply, the practice of thinking and writing can jumpstart the process once again.
Another thing I have tried is switching to reader mode and picking up some books off of the shelf. Reading reminds me of what I enjoy, and the power of words.
