I might learn something new from a TV shows, documentary, films or books. Then, this would sit in my head awhile with other new things I've learned. Finally, I would mix all my favorite things together, and create a story.

To learn to write, one must study; and the best way to study is to read. You learn the best story telling crafts from reading other authors writing. With first story telling rules, you learn the basic : 1) character introduced 2) conflict introduced, 3) rising action, 4) climax, 5) falling action and 6) resolution. But none of this will make sense without writing examples and identifying how someone uses their creative skills to achieve these rules to make a believable and interesting story.
