With The Possibilities of Adalay, I wanted the story to have the whimsy and excitement of classical children's literature such as the work of Dr. Seuss, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. In order to do that, I had to take Adalay someplace new and unfamiliar, not just to her, but to everyone who reads the story. So, I thought about the inner workings of our imaginations and I realized that in order for us to imagine what is NOT real, we have to give what we know possibility to imagine it. That's how I developed the concept of Possibility and Imagination being actual realms that could be visited if the conditions were right.

Much of my inspiration to write came from fantasy video games. Things like Dragon Age, Oblivion, Skyrim, Mass Effect and more made me want to tell my own stories with expansive worlds. Creating characters, worlds, and magic is such an outlet to the kind of creativity I wished I could wield when I originally pursued a career in game design. Writing books takes less money to get started.

At the time of answering this question, I'm currently working on the story of a legendary hero within the Ages of Eshéa universe. In the primary narrative (trilogy) the main character, Bauldane, receives a sword as remuneration for a task performed. That weapon was once owned by this hero. So, this story is of how the hero acquired the sword as well as his journey to becoming a hero. Sometimes, the legend is far grander than the truth.

Like any skill you set yourself to learning, practice and practice some more. And don’t be afraid to take the time to challenge yourself in new ways. A football player doesn’t just practice throwing or catching the ball. They practice running, tackling, swerving, jumping (obviously depending on their position) because it’s all part of the game. Dialogue, descriptions, scenes, plot, mood, emotion are all part of the “game”. Diversify your training so you’re better-equipped to win.
