Hi, Judy-- No, unfortunately, we aren't related, but at least we share the same first name!

Thank you so much, RumBelle! I am working on a new novel--not finished yet--that has much of the feeling and the food (!) from the first two. It also goes back and forth from present to past. It is related in style, but not the same setting or characters. I'm very excited about it and will share more when it's finished. My best to you!

Oh, there are so many! I would go back to the villages in south Devon, England, the setting of my favorite children's book The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge. It was also the favorite of J. K. Rowling. The manor was inspired by Compton Court and there still is a well where someone could hide a pearly necklace.

Not yet! Thank you for asking, Donnita.

I do something else for a while--answer e-mail, put things away, tidy up my office. After a day or two, I make myself free write--just sit down with an empty notebook page and pen or a site like www.750words.com that lets you know when you've written 750 words in a day. Out of all of that chaos will come a good idea or a thread that leads to scene or something important about a character.

The attire. Jeans and a sweater today. Pajamas and fluffy slippers another.

Belong to a writers group. That will give you deadlines so that you have to write and will teach you the crafts in a hands-on way.

I'm working on the sequel to The Cake Therapist called The Pie Whisperer. This book takes place in Kentucky and Ohio, with bluegrass music in the playlist, haunting characters, complications for Neely, and pie, of course!
Update: The sequel is called The Memory of Lemon and I'd love for you to check it out!

My first job was working in a small-batch bakery. I was always amazed at the wonderful bakery smell when I walked in the door. Every flavor that had been transformed into pastries, cookies, cakes, and pies escaped into sort of a flavor rainbow--red cherries, orange, yellow lemon, green lime, blueberry, violet plum, dark spice, invisible vanilla. Claire O'Neil, the pastry chef main character in The Cake Therapist, can see and taste those flavors. Then I took her a step further. Each flavor to her is like a hyperlink to a feeling, which is the heart of a story. Your story. Once Neely understands that, she can create just the flavor to help you mourn a loss, fall in love, get over it, or put your life back on track.
