The future in Jack McDevitt's Academy series would be awesome. It seems idyllic in its peacefulness, but exciting in that technology is allowing new developments and new discoveries--including life on other worlds.
I love the real-world present, and the new frontier we're on, but the Academy series shows a frontier that many of us have wanted for a long time.
