Yes, you do need to be inspired, but discipline and perseverance matter a great deal, too. There will be times when you feel abandoned and utterly hopeless and when you think you cannot continue on, but you must understand that this is part of a writer's life. Keeping a copy of Hemingway's "The Old Man and the Sea" close to you on your nightstand always helps.
