Force myself to write,...anything. Even if it's crap. It usually goes very slowly, a paragraph or two after a couple hours. Then put it away for a day or two, then revisit it. As predicted most of it will be unusable, but there's usually a nugget of something that will resonate with me to follow up on and that can springboard me into a whole new train of thought.
So be bold, take chances. There is nothing you write that can't be re-written later. Even out of the garbage, you might find a new avenue to pursue.
