"A School with No Name " was inspired by a Writers Digest Contest. The instructions were to write a story in 750 words or less about a girl who inserts a quarter into a gumball machine and gets a tooth.
I wrote a story, but unfortunately overlooked the 750 word limit. So I wrote another shorter story for the contest and lost. However, I had grown rather attached to and intrigued by the longer version, so I kept revising it until I felt it was just right. And that longer version became "A School with No Name." Read a book or watch a movie, and then think about how things could have gone differently in that book or movie. Ask yourself, "What if she did this instead of that?" Follow that train-of-thought and before you know it, you may have an original plot developing in your brain, begging to be turned into a story...
