R. Ch. Garcia I always loved reading as a child. But when I got to high school I began writing letters to my English teacher and continued after leaving for college. She saved them, edited and printed them up as a book[!} From then on I was hooked on getting stories published with my name as the author.
R. Ch. Garcia Family lore says one of my ancestors owned a silver mine, but that he was indio. Pictures of relatives from those times show upper class dresses that would go with owning a silver mine. How did this happen, what are the historical roots behind this possibility, and how were the riches lost. Now there's a story.
R. Ch. Garcia Death Song of the Dragón Chicxulub was the first novel I ever wrote. It sat on my desk for decades. I went on to write six other novels, novellas and chapter books, but my daughter Marika always thought it was my best. Hope she still thinks that when she holds it in her hands next March 1, 2021.
R. Ch. Garcia Write. Anything. Everytime you feel like it. Anywhere. Except in class where you might get caught and sent to the principal's office. But if you do, write while you're waiting for him to give you material for a funny story. Or a horror story. Or a memoir. Just write.
R. Ch. Garcia I calm myself to not let anxiety or stress from that get to me. Or divert myself into woodworking, gardening, landscaping, taking care of "my" animals--wild birds, my dog, my feral wonderful Nietos.
R. Ch. Garcia Since I might not have forever to write stories for young people, I focus on reading good and not so good books--Young Adult, Middle-grade, mostly fiction, mostly fantasy. I've read a few hundred, even if it's not obvious in my writing. Still learning, trying, crafting.
