My mom was born in Dublin and my dad in Stirling and they both came to the states with wonderful, cool, paranormal creatures and stories--I look back to them often. But, right now, I'm working on something called The Diamond Affair--inspired by the fact that International Thriller Writers arranges an amazing day at the FBI NYC offices every year. The agents are incredibly great with us--giving us tons with which to work!

Travel, the fact that I could be home when I was little--and some of the amazing things that come up. Top on my list--the USO tour I was privileged to go on with Harlan Coben, F. Paul Wilson, Phil Margolin, and Kathy Antrim. I've also gotten to dive an Atocha site with Mel Fisher's crew, and have a seance at the House of the Seven Gables. Thankfully, conferences and promotion can lead to wonderful things--that lead to more stories!

Since my early twenties, I've written for a living. I can't afford writer's block! Thank God, there's enough craziness around me that there's usually something going on that I have to use somehow in a story!

Write and love your craft and read like crazy. Find out what you consider to be wonderful books and write to that quality as your standard. And remember--it's okay to publish as an Indy or traditionally, just remember what publishing means--taking your work and line editing it (story, content, character, plot, etc.,) and then line edit it (continuity, grammar, fact checking where facts are important, even in fiction,) find the right artist or create yourself an amazing cover, write great copy, and produce and promote. There are many people out there today who facilitate Indy work--find the good ones! Traditional and small press publishers handle most of the above, so the decisions are all in your hands these days. Most important and always will be--hone your skills, tell a great story--and get the best book out there that you can!

What unique tips. Thank you for clear, brisk steps and especially your second tip: to the standard of what we consider wonderful. It's a no-brainer and I'm sure that's what I observe every time I adore an author or story but well put! Carolyn.

Final touches on next year's books. "The Dead Play On," a Cafferty and Quinn book that will be out at the end of the March. And the summer Krewe series--The Silenced, The Forgotten, and The Hidden.

People and places inspire me. I'd never been to Sleepy Hollow until a few years ago--and I instantly knew it was a perfect place for the Krewe to visit. The Betrayed came from the visit. There are cities I just love and spend a lot of time in. I do a benefit conference in New Orleans every year, so, yes, a lot of Nola! Also, people--I have a friend who is a "fabricator" for Legacy studios who works with creating costumes and creatures and, of course, had to change her a bit to become one of my heroines! History--great stories!--are great inspiration. It's true that we can never write stranger things than have really happened!
