Mara Purl Shift to writing a different section of the book I'm working on, or switch to working on a different book. I'm not sure writer's block really exists. I think sometimes we need to breathe, reflect on what we're writing, and come back to it fresh.
Mara Purl Honoring the talent I've been given by really using it. We don't really know our own thoughts unless we can put them into language, so I'm grateful for the ongoing journey of better understanding.
Mara Purl I speak about this quite frequently at writers' conferences. First, write regularly, let the writing flow, set aside time and space to write. Second, write about things that truly matter to you. Otherwise, your writing endeavors won't be sustainable, because you'll get bored with them and disengage. Third, read other authors and support them by posting your comments and attending their events if you possibly can.
Mara Purl I'm writing my first Paranormal novella, and it's part of my Milford-Haven series. What an interesting challenge! It's a balancing act between keeping the mystery, but making things clear enough for readers to follow. It's also making me dig deep to understand what I actually believe.
Mara Purl I see life through the lens of story, and am constantly fascinated by the choices people make. That inspires me . . . so much so that I have a huge list of titles I'm working on!
Mara Purl The idea came from conversations with a large book club in the Central Coast (where my series is set). After reading my previous books, members asked me why my protagonist had moved to my fictional town of Mmilford-Haven. I knew the answer . . . but realized I had never written it! So "When the Heart Listens" is really a prequel to my entire saga.
