I loved writing stories and poems when I was growing up. I entered my stories in newspaper competitions. It was great fun. Then the usual things got in the way—university, family, work. When I finally had time to myself I started writing again as a hobby. I did several online courses about the craft of writing. I started a mystery story and completed a speculative fiction one both of which I kept to myself. The Mystery of the Missing Tea Drinker is the first story I have published.

When I was growing up my brother and I loved treasure hunts and our dad was great at clues and riddles. One day we found a slip of paper with the words TALKING TEAPOT handwritten on it and the numbers 009572. We thought it was a treasure hunt clue and spent days trying to solve it. Eventually we asked our Dad who knew nothing about it. We never found out what the words and numbers meant but they stayed in the back of my mind and eventually grew into this book.
